Document Summary

Purpose: know the anatomy, physiology, and function of the heart. Define coronary circulation and state its function and its relative and importance to the cardiac system. Know and distinguish between the different layers of the heart. Cardiac system slides / images provided by instructor. Marieb, e. human anatomy laboratory manual, 8th ed. Description: this laboratory began with stating the location and function of the heart relative to the human body. The heart is located in the mediastinum of the thorax (chest region) and is the cardiovascular system"s main propulsive force that used to force blood through the closed circulatory system contained within the body. The three layers of the heart were then identified and distinguished, epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. The epicardium is the outer layer, the myocardium is the thickest and the middle layer, and the endocardium is the inner lining of the heart and is composed entirely of simple squamous epithelium that rests on areolar connective tissue.
