They have to use an analogy, a model. Instrumental aggression: aggression is used to a means to an end. It is used as an instrument to help you get something you want. There are 2 consequences when you engage in a behaviour: In this case you get what you want, or you could avoid something bad: such as when you are texting at the table and your parents tell you to stop. It can be used to have some sort of positive outcome or to prevent something bad. This type of aggression can be categorized into 2 subcategories: Personal instrumental: you use the aggression to get something for yourself or to avoid something bad happening to yourself. Prosocial instrumental: aggression used to get something for someone else or for society in general. Helping someone who is being bullied for example. Both are motivated by a desire to help.
