However, even in the twenty-first century, women are frequently treated in a biased fashion. This biased treatment is often relatively subtle, but it can also be life threatening. The popular media and the academic community frequently neglect women and issues important to them. Ex women go through certain things that men do not, like pregnancy + periods. Other experiences are more likely for women than for men. These include rape, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. In addition, when we study the psychology of women, we can focus on women"s experiences in areas that usually emphasize the male point of view. These areas include achievement, work, sexuality, and retirement. Sex = inborn biological characteristics relating to reproduction (sex organs + sex chromosomes) Gender = psychological characteristics and social categories that human culture creates. Ex. girls only wear pink, and boys can only like sports.
