Actively rehearse the information in the phonological store, refreshing and preserving it. Role: to bind together information from various sources working memory and long term memory. Uses the attentional processes and can be disrupted by concurrent tasks. Working memory is not a separate part of memory, apart from long term memory. Working memory is a portion of long term memory that is in a currently activate state. The part of a person"s knowledge that is in a more accessible or active state.
