PSYC 3170 Chapter Notes - Chapter 9: Chronic Kidney Disease
Document Summary
9 november 5: compliance, adhering to medical advice. Adherence/compliance: terms that refer to the degree to which patients carry out the behaviours and treatments their practitioners recommend. Adherence: suggests a collaborative nature of treatment. Compliance: giving in to a request or demand, or obeying reluctantly: extent of the nonadherence problem. First, failures to adhere may occur for many different types of medical advice. Second, people can violate each of these types of advice in many different ways. Third, there is a problem in determining whether a person has or has not complied. One of the easiest approaches for measuring compliance is to ask a practitioner who workers with the client to estimate it. Another simple approach is to ask the patient. These both can lead to lying and wishful thinking. Pill or quantity accounting: the remaining medication is measured, such as by counting the number of pills left.
