Document Summary

Throughout the course we have seen various examples of states (or governments) displacing segments of their populations. Draw on examples from both within and beyond asia. Introduction: the displacement of segments of different populations has been a much debated issue causing problems throughout asia as well as many other world regions. Thesis: states/governments justify the displacement of segments of their populations due to the benefits that are created for them through this process. By displacing segments of the population, there are often economic, social and political advantages (??) for the government. Point #1 economic advantages: often, displacing a population is done for a specific reason, such as accommodating a new government project. However, the building of dams often interferes with the people inhabiting areas close to the dam and people are forced to relocate. Overall, the government feels they are justified in displacing segments of the population based on the economic growth caused by the building of dams.
