Document Summary
Economic changes in the past three centuries have often been connected to transnational processes, part of what is often called globalization. These transnational processes have often benefited a few and harmed many. Economic development is an ideology that makes certain assumptions about non-industrial countries and views increasing levels of technology and westernization as the answers to improving the living conditions of people in the developing world. Loans provided by institutions such as the world bank to enhance industrialization in developing countries have not always resulted in positive outcomes. Desire to help other cultures and make them more western sometimes ends up making matters much worse. For many small-scale societies, economic development has led to cultural devastation at the hands of civilized countries (developed world) Tech and medical advancements have helped improve our health. Question of how you measure health how active you are, what you eat, etc . Western health vs the rest of the world.
