Research is a two-step process: development of new knowledge to further our understanding of events and behaviours, dissemination of the knowledge to the masses. Researchers primarily disseminate findings of studies in two ways: giving presentations at professional meetings, through written reports. Researchers can present the findings from recently completed studies or discuss projects in progress. Advantage: allows feedback that could potentially improve the study. Disadvantage: limited audience and lack of permanence of the presentation. Represents the middle ground b/w presentation and written report. Think of a science fair, where many presentations are occurring at the same time. Advantage: attendants can circulate among the presenters, ask questions, and discuss the work w the presenter.
