It (cid:373)ade (cid:449)he(cid:374) god p(cid:396)o(cid:373)ises noah that he"ll (cid:374)e(cid:448)e(cid:396) agai(cid:374) se(cid:374)d a flood to destroy the world. In covenant, powerful ruler would promise protection to less powerful one on condition that they would fulfilled certain obligations: to ritually seal treaty, they would have number of animals cut in half & their carcasses lined in rows. Two parties would walk b/t them to syboliically indicating their understanding of contract. If obligations broken, either party would suffer same fate as animals.
