Fate begins to guide our lives even before we are born, and it continues throughout our lives; poverty vs rich households. Mother died when he was 4; never knew a real mother"s affection. Father left with 3 kids, met step-mother who was left with 7 kids - both found each other through fate - mother needed someone to financially protect them, and father needed someone to mother his children- typical gender roles. Father did not think of his kids as children to be loved, but kids to be provided for - which he was doing. Fear began through step-mom"s beatings, with no support or assistance from father. Step-mom= head of the family in some ways- she would blame incidents on her step- children, and father would not be able to interfere, otherwise step-mom would threaten to leave. Father had steady job, but all money went towards step-mom and her children - his kids were left with little food/clothing.
