Scholars link the increase in nonstandard work to the rise of the service economy, instability in the global economy, privatization of government services, and organizational restructuring that occurred in the late 20th century. In reality, the standard employment relationship as we know it arose after ww2. Insecure jobs, such as seasonal and casual labour, have always been a big part of the canadian economy. For employees, there are more downsides: research documents increased job insecurity, loss benefits, and wages that are too low to allow a decent standard of living. Are nonstandard jobs bad jobs: evidence shows that nonstandard workers are worse off than are workers in standard employment relationships.
