During puberty, testosterone levels in males increase dramatically: androgenic and anabolic effects. Promotes development of secondary sex characteristics e. g. deeper voice, growth of facial hair, increase in size of penis. Surge in testosterone triggers great deal of protein synthesis (production of new proteins), increasing body size and muscle mass of young men.
