BU415 Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Information System, Breakcore, Customer Development
Document Summary
Managers must take part in software design, acquisition and implementation processes. Managers involvement in is funding and design is essential because firm"s success depends on right use of software. Mckinsey study: it projects, on average, run 45% over budget, 7% overtime and deliver. 56% less value than expected, and 17% produce negative consequences that fuck shit up. Complex and risky because they involve both technical and social challenges. Technology development modern is built on an it core, generating the it core is a prerequisite to delivering the needed information processing functionalities. Information system development creating the needed it core is not sufficient to fulfill the information processing needs of the firm: must integrate the technology with other components of the organization (people, processes, structure) Technology development and implementation processes are intertwined, not sequential. Design of new software program must take into account how the technology will be employed, by whom and under what organizational enablers.
