Document Summary
Chapter 7: orientation, training and development, and career planning. The process of integrating and acculturating new employees into the organization and providing them with the tools, resources and knowledge to become successful and productive. The purpose of these programs is to help employees feel welcome, build relationships with peers and experienced workers, understand the organization"s culture, and to leverage the skills and talent that a new hire brings. If done properly, onboarding can serve several purposes: Reduce employee turnover: when experienced, long-service employees quit, the loss may be incalculable because of the training, knowledge, and skills these workers take with them. Develop clear job and organizational exceptions: effective onboarding is necessary to properly inform employees what the organization expects of them and what they can expect in return. Reduce employee anxiety and increase organizational strategy: communicating policies and regulations to new employees reduces undesirable behaviour and friction points.
