Document Summary

Energy only comes in two major forms. Kinetic energy: energy of motion (most familiar form) Potential energy: immobile object can still possess a form of energy. Depends on the structure of the object or its position relative to its surroundings. Released by a change in the objects structure or position. When given a path, molecules move down their concentration and electrical gradients from higher to lower potential energy. Energy can be converted from one form to another. Chemical energy: form of potential energy held in the chemical bnds between pairs of atoms in a molecule. More stable con guration will have lower potential energy. Energy is required to break a covalent bond as going from lower to higher requires more energy. Energy is released when a covalent bond forms. A strong bond requires more energy to break apart as their are much more stable. Strong bonds do not contain very much chemical energy.
