A cause is an explanation of an event. Not everything can be equal though so we have to control as much as possible. 5 criteria for identifying causal effect ( rst three have to be proven to have causal effect the last two just strengthens it ) Sometimes called correlation. this is the rst criterion for identifying causal effect. It is when variation in one variable causes variation in another. This is the independent variable happens before the dependent. Spuriousness is when another variable is the cause of the dependent. like the relationship between the 2 variables is actually due to a third variable. This is why you have to control for the other possible causes. This is a discernible process that creates a causal connection between 2 variables. The larger set of interrelated circumstances in which a particular outcome should be observed why experiment. 1. two comparison groups which esablish association.
