The birth of civilization: civilization began after agricultural revolution when there were plentiful supplies of food. Moved from isolated villages: civilization now means a vibrant metropolis. Required social, political organization: by 3000 bc, there were multiple towns or incipient(developing) cities. No natural advantages so no city could control for long. Whole region was then conquered by sargon from the north in 2371 bc. Extended reach to mediterranean sea: 2000 bc followed by sumaria city state system after sargon empire fell, 2000 bc the amerites took over, first civilizations arose in the basins of great river valleys. Lasted 1000 years and vanished in 1500 bc: china appeared along the ladlu river, shang in china built political systems and bronze objects. Direct rule was small: each civilization all shared certain features, cities: in mesopotamia there are the remains of nepoor and they are dwarfed by the cities in babylon, architecture had grant monumental buildings.
