Diagnostic criteria for autistic disorder: qualitative impairment in social interaction, qualitative impairments in communication, restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behaviour, interests, and activities. In addition to core symptoms, autistic disorder must also show delays/abnormal functioning in social interaction, in language, or in imaginative play prior to age 3.
