Social psychology: scientific study of how individuals behave, think and feel in social situations i. e. in the presence (actual or implied) of others, o(cid:373)e roles are as(cid:272)ri(cid:271)ed like (cid:271)ei(cid:374)g a professor, so(cid:373)e are(cid:374)"t like (cid:271)ei(cid:374)g a (cid:373)other. The schema then acts as a filter for incoming info: schema: mental framework, mental set: readiness to perceive the world in a particular way; shapes how we interpret a stimulus. Idea that we have limited cognitive resources so any device that releases cognitive resources will be used often: kernel of truth hypothesis, stereotypes may stem from some real fact that gets overgeneralized or more exaggerated (ex.
