Management and Organizational Studies 3420F/G Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Sampling Frame, Sampling Error, Statistical Parameter
Document Summary
Sampling: the process of obtaining information from a subset of a larger group. Population: the entire group of elements about whom information is needed, also called the universe or population of interest. Sample: a subset of all the members of a population of interest. Census: the collection of data obtained from every or almost every member of the population of interest. Census is not more accurate than a sample. Sample can be better because of greater potential for biases and errors from census. Ex. may not get a full list, refusal to participate, budget, timeline. Choose a data collection method implications for the sampling process. Depend on the objectives of the study, the financial resources available, time limita- tions, and the nature of the problem under investigation. Probability samples: samples in which every element of the population has a known, non-zero likelihood of selection.
