Kinesiology 3474A/B Chapter 3: Chapter 3 – Expertise and Psychological Interventions
Document Summary
In many physical activity contexts, 3 components come into play: technical, physical, and mental. Understanding of the features that limit performance at the highest levels of sport can increase our understanding of the factors that influence human achievement across other domains. Such knowledge may be used to test general theories of expertise and skill acquisition. Knowledge of mechanisms determines what types of practice are most likely to be beneficial for performance improvement, & why some people improve at different rates compared to others. This knowledge is relevant when designing training interventions, including psych interventions.
