Many people strive to be the very best in a given activity, but few actually become experts. Bottom is wide, with many novices, but top is narrow, with few experts. In most physical activity contexts, three general components come into play. Ability to execute different skills relating to the sport. Mental component, can comprise of number of skills. If you have a weakness in one of these components your likelihood of being successful is greatly diminished. Experts tend to have few, if any weaknesses. How is somebody likely to become an expert. This knowledge is relevant when designing appropriate training interventions, including psychological interventions. Expertise has been studied in a variety of domains including music, chess, education, physics, mathematics and business. With respect to physical activity domains, most of the expertise research has considered sport. Some of the sports in which expertise have been investigated include eld hockey, gure skating, soccer, and wrestling.
