Relationship continuum: not friends intimate; in between = different degrees of friendship. Intimacy can involve sexual relations without romance, and vice versa. Positive aspects: mutual understanding and passion for the sport. Main problem w an unequal balance of power is an issue of true consent on athlete"s behalf . In rare cases where athlete did actually consent, power differential may not be conclusive (2) conflict of interest: Conflict of interest exists when the favouring of the intimate partner isn"t done consciously. High probability that coach will unconsciously give intimate partner more attention, play time : other athletes on team may treated unfairly in this case even in done unconsciously. May actually get less attention sometimes d/t consciously not wanting to show favouritism. In this case, other teammates still suffering b/c it could be that the star is getting less attention and the team suffers consequentially. Either way, the athlete w whom the coach is intimate w is being tread unfairly.
