Document Summary
Pain prevalence study in a large canadian teaching hospital. Sawyer, j. , haslam, l. , daines, p. , & stilos, k. (2010). Pain management is considered to be a significant aspect of patient care and is one of the indicators of hospital accountability. Pain management standards were set in 2005 by the canadian council on health services. They present a minimum requirement when assessing pain management at various health care institutions. Despite new advancements in pain management and adequate documentation of unrelieved pain, pain is still managed poorly. A study done in different countries at different hospitals for 40 years showed that pain is not managed well at these institution. Pain prevalence data offers information for leaders in the field of providing patient care. The same study was repeated to build on the experience of the previous study. This will produce a more indepth evaluation and its management at various institutions. They hypothesized that pain management would still be poor.
