Moving down the mountain into the dust bowl, the air is heated by adiabatic compression hence air is both dry and hot. Gulf moisture can"t reach it because of coriolis effect. Deflects moisture-carrying winds from the south towards the east into the atlantic ocean. The 100th meridian divides the dust bowl area to the west from the humid area to the east. This makes the area have semi-arid climate, with highly-variable precipitation (temporally and spatially) and random streaks of droughts.
