Physical figures of why the area was dry such as the mountains, two principle reasons why it was dry. Only two water bodies to provide moisture, the gulf and the pacific ocean in the region. The case of western water, the pacific winds push the moisture over several mountain ranges and air is produced due to this movement over the region. The precipitation removes a lot of this moisture.
