Chapter 1: what is organizational behavior: organizational behavior helps managers and employees make sense of the workplace and also applies to work in groups of all kinds. Ob is for everyone: informal leadership, employees asked to share in decision making processes, ex. Employees in retail asked to make decisions when to accept returned items: entrepreneurs and self-employed, relevant anywhere people come together and share experiences, work on goals, or meet to solve problems. The building blocks of ob: ob emerged as a distinct field in the 1940s in the us, it is an applied behavioral science that builds upon contributions from behavioral disciplines. Psychology: seeks to measure, explain, and sometimes change the behavior of humans and other animals, learning theorists, personality theorists, counselling psychologists, industrial and organizational psychologists. Anthropology: study of societies to learn about human beings and their activities.
