Media representations do not accurately depict the real world. In media, certain aspects are highlighted and others are neglected. Media often isn"t trying to reflect the real world. There is a potential social significance in all media products. Hard to compare the real world to media when the very concept of what is real is up for debate. Assessing the significance of media through linking content to: producers, audience interests, society in general, audience effects, or examining content independent of context. Would be able to infer that the content reflected the intent of the writers/producers. May be able to see that since a large amount of producers have children, there will be more children in the shows they produce, for example. Their reasoning behind including who/what they did in the show would be an area of study. The program may be marketed to a specific age group, which may describe why there are a lot of children in it.
