Document Summary
James pennebaker- writing about events/personal disasters may be one of best strategies for coping. Conducted study where he got half people to write about their deep feelings surrounding their life and being fired whereas other group just wrote about their days and how they were going to find another job. Result: people writing about deep feelings were being hired more frequently. Coping: processes utilized to deal with demands, stress and conflict. Problem solving approach: cope on defining problem and working towards a solution. But this is not always effective because not all problems have simple solutions. Emotion-focused approach: focusing on the emotional effects of a stressor rather than attempting to find an immediate solution. Positive psychology: use scientific methods to study human strengths/potential. Found out that one of the most effective tools for coping= focusing on positive emotions: positive emotions can affect how we perceive the world. Negative moods=focusing on small part of environment.
