Document Summary
Episodic memory: memory of specific experiences; cannot recall personal experiences or feelings related to those facts. Stores: retain information in memory without using it for any specific purpose, like a hard drive. Control processes: shift information from one memory store to another (arrows in the model) Attention: selects which information will be passed to stm. Stm goes through encoding: process of storing info in the ltm system and this info can be retrieved: brings information from ltm back into stm. This model includes three memory stores: sensory memory. Accurately holds perceptual info for a very brief amount of time (amount of time depends on which sensory system we talk about). Iconic memory is the visual form of sensory memory and is held for one half to one second while echoic memory is the auditory for of sensory memory which is held for longer (5 seconds). Sensory memories disappear faster than an individual can report them.
