Document Summary
Hmb265 lecture 5 readings - extensions of mendelian genetics part 1 (pg. Most human traits not antagonistic /mutually exclusive pairs. Cross between pure-breed tan + pure-breed grey = all brown f1. F1 self-pollination = tan, grey, brown, green lentils. People did a lot of controlled breeding tests. Use mendel"s 3:1 phenotypic ratio as guideline. If traits follow mendel"s laws = assumed to be determined by single gene w/ alternative dominant/recessive alleles. More than 2 alleles in particular cross. Multifactorial traits (controlled by 2+ genes + interaction w/ environment) So far just thinking about complete dominance: Mate 2 pre-breed lines (blue x white) But might also have hybrids w/ phenotype that differ from both parents. Incomplete dominance: the f1 hybrid resembles neither pure-breeding parent. Hybrid doesn"t look like either pure-breeding parent. Phenotype that is intermediate btwn pure-breeding parents. = neither parental allele dominant/recessive, both contribute to f1 phenotype. Cross pure-bred red flowers and bure-bred white flowers = pink flowers f1.
