Delinquency is behavior against criminal code committed by an individual who has not reached adulthood, as defined by state or federal law. Recently, more have been transferred to criminal court. Often sent to juvenile facility until adulthood, and transferred to prison. Social delinquency consists of wide variety of youthful behaviors considered inappropriate, not all considered criminal. Ex: substance abuse, vandalism, aggressive behavior, bullying. Delinquent include youth with a conduct disorder or that display antisocial behavior. Conduct disorder: diagnostic term to represent a group of behaviors characterized by habitual misbehavior: ex: arson, running away from home, skipping school, animal abuse, lying. Antisocial behavior: non-diagnostic term referring to serious habitual misbehavior; encompasses conduct disorder, odd, adhd. Child delinquents: juveniles between ages 7-12 who have committed a delinquent act according to criminal law. Often attract attention of media and public. Juvenile crimes and court caseloads have declines over past decade.
