Bullying, cyber bullying, sexual assault, & dating violence have attracted media scrutiny. Behaviors may be less widespread that they appear to be based on media accounts. Since mid-1990s, we have seen decrease in crime committed by youths across most crime categories, including both property & violent crime, but there are periodic upward spikes. Juveniles as group are responsible for small % of arrests compared with adults, but they are arrested disproportionally compared with age groups. This may be due to their naivet at committing crime & fact that they often commit crime in groups.
