PSYB45H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8, 9: Reinforcement, Equivalence Class, Little Albert Experiment
Document Summary
Week 4 may 25 th , 2015. Intermittent reinforcement: is an arrangement in which a behavior is positively reinforced only occasionally (i. e. , intermittently) rather than every time it occurs. Response rate: the number of instances of a behavior that occur in a given period of time: synonymous with the term response frequency. Extinction is the complete opposite of continuous reinforcement. Free-operant procedure: no constraints on the individual"s responses, free to respond repeatedly: e. g. , when studying and reading with nowhere to go, you can do the behavior as much as you want. Can only do it once per night, so individual must wait 3 days. Types of intermittent schedules for increasing and maintaining behavior: ratio, simple interval, schedules with limited hold, duration. Ratio schedule: based on the number of responses (target behavior) emitted: fixed-ratio (fr) schedule: reinforcement occurs each time a fixed number of responses emitted. E. g. , read 10 pages of textbook before taking a break.
