Document Summary

Week 4 chapter 8: developing behavioral persistence with schedules of reinforcement. Response rate (response frequency): refers to the number of instances of a behavior that occur in a given period of time. Schedule of reinforcement: rule specifying which occurrences of a given behavior, if any, will be reinforced. Continuous reinforcement (crf): the simplest schedule of reinforcement; an arrangement in which each instance of a particular response is reinforced. Different schedules are suitable for different types of applications. Operant extinction: the decrease or cessation of a behavior on an extinction schedule in which no instance of a given behavior is reinforced. Intermittent reinforcement: a behavior is positively reinforced only occasionally (i. e. intermittently); lies in between these crf and operant extinction many activities in the natural environment are not reinforced continuously. Acquisition phase: the period while a behavior is being conditioned or learned. Maintenance phase: the period of when a behavior has become well learned.
