PSYB20H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Nipissing District, 6 Years, Binocular Vision
Document Summary
Toddlerhood lasts from about 18 to 36 months, a period when children become more verbal, independent and able to move about. The first three years are a time of explosive growth and development. For growth to be optimal, good nutrition and healthy eating habits are important. An infants head is relatively large compared to the rest of its body. Cephalocaudal principle: growth occurs from top down. Proximodistal principle: growth and motor development proceed from the centre of the body outward. Boys are generally a bit heavier and taller than girls. As a baby grown into a toddler its body shape and proportions change too, a 3 year old is slender than a fat baby. Teething begins at 3 or 4 months but the first tooth may not actually arrive until sometime between 5 and 9 months of age. By the first birthday babies generally have six to eight teeth by 2 they have a mouth full of 20 teeth.
