Syntax component of grammar concerned with form of grammatical sentences, the study of sentence formation: how we put words together to make meaningful sentences. Grammatical sentence sentence that follows english (syntax) rules. To be grammatical, sentences don"t have to be: meaningful, true, real. Comprised of 2 sub components: lexicon (get words, computational system (use rules to make sentences) 2 operations: merge combine words to create sentences, move move words within particular structure (ex. making a question) Nouns: determiners (normally come before nouns): An adj. can come between a determiner and noun [det + adj. Adjectives: come before nouns, and state verbs, modifies nouns.
