Information ethics and privacy issues with facebook make headlines. This case examines information ethics and privacy issues confronting facebook users that made national and international headlines. Facebook, the popular global social networking web site, received much attention in the popular press for a variety of information ethics and privacy issues. Take, for instance, what happened to an employee of nationale suisse, a swiss insurance company, who was fired for using facebook on a day she called in sick. The 31-year old woman had called her employer saying she was desperately ill with a migraine and that she needed to lie in the dark. However, that very same day, one of her work colleagues saw her signed onto facebook and reported this activity to the woman"s boss. When the public found out about the firing, there was an uproar that nationale. Suisse was playing big brother by monitoring its employees" personal activities online.
