EESA01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Metapopulation, Lightning, Nitrogen Fixation
Document Summary
Hypoxia: the lack of dissolved oxygen: common in estuarine and coastal waters. Usually caused by nutrient run-off into the deep water, where the decamp. of the nutrients takes up all the oxygen. Eutrophication: the process of causing nutrient over enrichment. Negative feedback loop: outputs moving in one direction and the inputs in another. Thermostat turns on to keep the room war when it is cold. Positive feedback loop: they have oppose effects, they drive the system further to- wards one of the extremes. Warming of the climate causes ice caps to melt, exposing the black underneath but then the black parts absorb more light causing for more heat. These are rear in nature but have occurred due to human impact. Geosphere: the rock and sediment beneath our feet, uppermost layer. Lithosphere: topmost layer of mantle and crust. Atmosphere: composed of the air surrounding the planet.
