Document Summary

Hypoxia- lack of dissolved oxygen in water: caused by decomposition of excess organic matter and plant nutrients from fertilizer run off and animal waste. Eutrophication excess nutrient over enriched in a body of water (usually phosphorus) Environment consists of complex networks of interlinked systems. Earths system includes cycles that shape the landscape around us and guide the flow of key chemical elements. System network of relationships among parts that interact and influence one another through exchanges of energy, matter, etc. Open system receive input and send outputs of both energy and matter. Closed system reveive inputs and outputs of energy but not matter. Negative feedback loop one direction acts as input that moves the system in the other direction: input and output neutralize each others effects, stabilizing the system. Positive feedback loop opposite effect it drives the system further towards one extreme instead of stabilizing it ie/ erosion.
