It is a theory (well established explanation for something) Biological evolution: changes in allele frequencies in populations over generations, alleles are diff forms of the same gene, populations are groups of interbreeding organisms, changes in genetic characteristics of populations. Microevolution: changes in allele frequency within species, this will allow inheriting of traits. It is the evolutionary transformation of an existing species and does not produce new species: species a will become species b. What causes evolution: mechanisms of evolution: mutation, migration, genetic drift, selection, only mechanism that can explain adaptation, adaptation is a trait that makes one more suited in the environment. We do not know actual dates, but depending on how deep it is in the strata, we know how old they are relative to others. Example of how fossils are created: petrified wood: minerals replace the wood of dead trees, molecule by molecule. These isotopes decay overtime: very popular one is radiocarbon dating, c14.
