Document Summary

Eukaryotes have a true nucleus enclosed by a nuclear envelope. Membrane protein can be used as a channel for substances or act as receptors for hormones and enzymes. Plasma membrane also have identity by using a protein, allowing the cells to detect what type of cell it is. A cell wall is surrounded around the membrane in fungi and plants. In a nuclear envelope there are two layers separated by the cytoplasm: layer just inside, layer separated by a narrow space. Eukarya divided into 4 major groups: protists, fungi, animals, plants. Network of protein filaments called lamins lines an reinforces the inner surface of the nuclear envelope (in animals cells) - lamin is a type of intermediate filament. Proteins line the inner surface of nuclear envelopes in protists, fungi and plants. Nuclear pore complex: large octagonal symmetrical, cylindrical structure formed by many proteins called the nucleoporins.
