PSYC 305 Chapter Notes - Chapter 5: Apperception, Energizer, Extraversion And Introversion
Document Summary
A need is a physiochemical force in the brain that organizes perception, intellection, and action in such a way as to transform an unsatisfying situation into a more satisfying one . The stronger the need, the more intense the action. The stronger the need, the sooner it"s reflected in action. Motives: product of needs, appear in your thought and preoccupation, emotionally toned, eventually produce action, directs behavior towards or away. Need of food do not experience it directly ----> hunger (motive) experiences directly. Distinguish need and motive by the existence of a subjective experience. Environmental press: external influences of motive: through effects on motive, eventually alter thought and behavior, what you want instead of what you need, e. g: seeing someone winning an award press you to win an award too. Dispositional motives: some people naturally have more of a given motive much of the time than other people: effects behavior: when motive is high enough it encourages such behavior.
