Interact a lot of food and beverage in tyramine. Avoid cured meats, aged cheeses, unpasteurized alcohol , fermented vegetables. Moa of old antidepressants: reduce degradation of serotonin and norepinephrine. Moa of newer classes of antidepressants: target transporters that are responsible that take up ne or serotonin by blocking them. Neurotransmitters able to stay in synapses increases transmission downstream. Not very selective for targets of depression = large number of side effects. High affi(cid:374)it(cid:455) for (cid:373)ore tra(cid:374)sporters (cid:894)(cid:271)lo(cid:272)k (cid:373)us(cid:272)ari(cid:374)i(cid:272) re(cid:272)eptors a(cid:374)ti(cid:272)holi(cid:374)ergi(cid:272) effe(cid:272)ts: dr(cid:455) (cid:373)outh, tachycardia etc. ) Cause orthostatic hypotension: bp decreases when patients change position (supposed to constrict) Do not have to know details of these side effects, only acknowledge that they have affinity for other receptors and cause side effects. First line treatment for depression & anxiety disorders. Moa: selectively inhibiting sert = more serotonin in synaptic cleft. Less side effects compared to tca & maois because of its high selectivity.
