Culture develops as we see ourselves in a larger context. Culture has to do w/ the manner in which socieies place value on various aspects of human existence. See values relected in how society works and what is available to indivs. Development of shared goals and intenions during irst 2 years of life as basic cog skills needed to develop culture. Can enviro inluence geneics and can geneics inluence culture. Niche construcion perspecive: how organisms can modify their enviro and how this changes evoluionary selecion pressures. Cultures that had present or past threats such as territorial conlicts, resource scarcity, exposure to high levels of pathogens -> ight cultures. Humans learn language w/ ease, reading/wriing require educaional process -> aspect of cultural development. Cultural variaion -> seen in diversity of beliefs, knowledge, arifacts. Cultural selecion -> occus as results of humans limited atenion, memory, expression. Macaque monkey washed a potato, other monkeys followed suit.
