PSYC 4750 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Work Ethic, Takers, Consonant Harmony
Document Summary
Evolutionary history is a source of motivation that focuses on what behaviors humans have in common in spite of vast social and cultural differences. Human nature: refers to the behavioral, motivational, and emotional similarity among persons that result from their common evolutionary history. It is their disposition to behave in a particular fashion depending on the situation. It is shaped by natural or sexual selection and it is generally transmitted from one generation to the next. The interaction between these two factors is another way of stating that the interaction between nature and nurture motivates behavior. Galton claimed that it was hard to distinguish between those parts. The impact of both these factors is different for every behavior. Hereditary can influence behavior in more than one way: Inherited physical features affect a persons behavior such as the relationship between the thumb and fingers.
