PSYC 2330 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Sensory Neuron, Motor Neuron, The Reflex
Document Summary
Chapter 2: behaviour is not infinitely flexible to move in any direction, organisms are born with pre-existing behaviour systems and tendencies that set limits on how learning occurs and what the impact of learning can be. Learning is most successful if it takes into account the pre-existing behaviour structures of the organism. Environmental stimulus: for a reflex activates a sensory neuron; transmits the sensory message to the spinal cord. Neural impulses are relayed to the motor neuron; activates the muscles involved in the reflex response. Impulses from one to another are relayed through at least one interneuron: respiratory occlusion reflex is essential for survival; allows the baby to get air. Model action patterns: simple reflex patters : pupillary constriction to a bright light, startle reactions to a brief loud noise, response sequences that are typical of a particular species are referred to as model.
