Mnemonic devices: techniques used to enhance the meaningfulness of info as a way of making them more memorable schemas: knowledge bases that we develop based on prior exposure to similar experiences or other knowledge bases. 2 sources: sensory memory system and long-term memory system helps us do mental computations, read, conversation. Limited duration concentrated efforts (ex. rehearsal) helps lengthen time in working memory but eventually goes to ltm or lost. In long-term memory: holds a quadrillion separate pieces of info minutes to a lifetime new info must be attended and encoded before they are stored. Levels of processing model - info processed to shallow or deeper depths deeper depths (meaning/understanding) are likely to be recalled later.
