BUS 272 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Selective Perception
Document Summary
Real communication requires feedback (both giving & seeking) Communication = steps b/t source & receiver that result in transfer & understanding of meaning. Communication process: sender = initiates message by encoding thought, encoding, message, channel, decoding, receiver = to whom message is directed, must translate symbols into understandable form, noise = communication barriers that distort clarity of message. I. e. perceptual problems, info overload, cultural differences, etc: feedback = check on how successful we have been in transferring our messages as originally intended. Formal channels = communication channels est by org to transmit messages related to professional activities of members. Informal channels = communication channels created spontaneously & emerge as responses to indiv choices. Communication apprehension = undue tension & anxiety about oral communication, written communication, or both. Channel richness = degree to which channel can transmit most info per communication episode. Some messages better communicated over less rich channels, depends on situation.
