The process by which individuals organize and interpret their impressions to give meaning to their enviro. *people"s behaviour is based on their perception of what reality is, not on reality itself. Perceiver, target, situation all effect what we perceive. The perceiver looks at the target and attempts to interpret what they see. Interpretation is heavily influenced by your personal characteristics characteristics include: motives, personality, interests, past experiences i. e. you expect young people to be lazy: you perceive them as such regardless of their actual traits. The target i. e. loud people are more likely to be noticed in a group than a quiet person. Characteristic of a target that shape how we see it: We don"t look at targets in isolation, perceptions. Time, location, heat, heat etc. can effect how we see an object/ event i. e. short dress to a club on saturday night normal. Short dress to work on monday people will notice bc not normal motion, sound, novelty, size.
